Ross Flamson Photography: Taste Of Digbeth

Taste Of Digbeth

I shot all of these pictures in monochrome to capture the detail in the images for some of them I have used two different versions one darker and one lighter I did this to show how you can change the mood of a picture just by editing it in Photoshop, I changed the brightness and contrast to achieve this effect I also edited the sharpness on all of the images to add more detail and to make the images more crisp, The main focuses of the images are street art, urban landscapes, textures and abandoned areas.

For this shot I tried to focus on the textures and light reflecting off the eyeball, I edited the image in Photoshop to show different details in the image I did this by changing the brightness and contrast and using different levels of sharpness.
  • Camera Model: Canon EOS 650D
  • F-stop:  f/5
  • Exposure time: 1/800 sec
  • ISO: 800
  • Focal length: 18mm
  • Metering mode: pattern
  • Flash: yes

The focus of this shot is the texture on the tear in the material I have edited the image into two separate images using different exposure and contrast settings on Photoshop the dark one shows all of the detail across the whole sheet of material and the light one focuses on just the tear.
  • Camera Model: Canon EOS 650D
  • F-stop:  f/6.3
  • Exposure time: 1/800 sec
  • ISO: 400
  • Focal length: 18mm
  • Metering mode: pattern
  • Flash: yes

For this shot I used a fast shutter speed to capture the falling water drops, I also made sure I got the light coming through the windows reflecting in the puddle to add more variation to the image.
  • Camera Model: Canon EOS 650D
  • F-stop:  f/5.6
  • Exposure time: 1/60 sec
  • ISO: 400
  • Focal length: 18mm
  • Metering mode: pattern
  • Flash: no
For this shot I made sure I got the caravan going diagonally into the background to add size to it, I also made sure the caravan was the main focus of the image, I also used a flash to highlight the whites in the paint on the caravan.
  • Camera Model: Canon EOS 650D
  • F-stop:  f/5.6
  • Exposure time: 1/800 sec
  • ISO: 800
  • Focal length: 18mm
  • Metering mode: pattern
  • Flash: yes
I edited this shot in Photoshop and increased the sharpness and gamma to bring out the dirty spots on the glass and also to silhouette the parts of the interior that are showing in the light i did this to add more atmosphere to the shot by making the inside of the building look much darker that it actually was to make the light more prominent.
  • Camera Model: Canon EOS 650D
  • F-stop:  f/22
  • Exposure time: 1/15 sec
  • ISO: 400
  • Focal length: 18mm
  • Metering mode: pattern
  • Flash: no

  • In this shot I used depth of field to focus on the fence and add depth to the background, i shot it in monochrome to add a darker mood to the image.
  • Camera Model: Canon EOS 650D
  • F-stop:  f/3.5
  • Exposure time: 1/4000 sec
  • ISO: 800
  • Focal length: 18mm

For this shot i have used two different versions edited in Photoshop
i used the sharpness, brightness and contrast tools to completely
change the look of the image, i have made one of the images
look dirty which closer to the actual locations look and the
other a cleaner look, i achieved this by increasing the
sharpness and decreasing the contrast and brightness in the top
version and doing the opposite in the bottom.

  • Camera Model: Canon EOS 650D
  • F-stop:  f/5.6
  • Exposure time: 1/100 sec
  • ISO: 800
  • Focal length: 18mm
  • Metering mode: pattern
  • Flash: yes
  • For this shot i used the flash on the camera so it would reflect off the police officers
reflective strips on the back of their jackets to make them the main focus of the shot i then edited
the shot in Photoshop and increased the sharpness to bring out the white in the writing on the wall as a secondary focus of the shot .
  • Camera Model: Canon EOS 650D
  • F-stop:  f/3.5
  • Exposure time: 1/4000 sec
  • ISO: 800
  • Focal length: 18mm
  • Metering mode: pattern
  • Flash: yes

  • The focus of this shot is the texture of the wall to make sure i had the perfect amount of detail in the textures on the wall i took multiple shots using different settings and this shot is the one i feel turned out best out of them all, i edited this shot in Photoshop afterwards, i increased the sharpness of the image to add more depth and feel to the textures on the wall.
  • Camera Model: Canon EOS 650D
  • F-stop:  f/7.1
  • Exposure time: 1/200 sec
  • ISO: 800
  • Focal length: 45mm
  • Metering mode: pattern
  • Flash: yes

  • The main focus of this shot is the barbed wire in the foreground i made sure of this by changing the aperture setting or f-stop on the camera, the only post processing i used on this image was increasing the sharpness in Photoshop.
  • Camera Model: Canon EOS 650D
  • F-stop:  f/3.5
  • Exposure time: 1/3200 sec
  • ISO: 800
  • Focal length: 18mm
  • Metering mode: pattern
  • Flash: no
